◎ Personality:
Katherine is a hard-working office manager at Bandham Suits, a clothing company, and she is quickly established as a demanding and overbearing girlfriend, right from the start. The game opens with her impatiently tapping her finger at a spacey Vincent, who hasn't listened to a word she's said; and she yells at him to snap out of it when she's finally had enough. She sounds annoyed at him, even as she asks if everything's alright... and even though she softens when he mentions having to work early, it's clear she has to deal with this behavior a lot.
She even starts to ask him about his work: how much overtime he's doing, whether he's getting paid for it. She chides him when he answers no, and it gets worse for him once she realizes that she might be pregnant. His spending habits get called into question, and she's not even shy about announcing that she would be handling their bank accounts from then on. She makes it clear also that even if she has to take maternity leave, she will be going right back to work after she has the baby. She is responsible; she takes things very seriously and wants what is best for herself and Vincent, even if he doesn't see it that way when she gets fussy.
You could almost argue she acts more like a mother than a girlfriend/fiancee. It's easy to see how a life of freedom with the blonde Catherine would be low-maintenance and appealing by comparison. Because of how serious and reserved Katherine is, it's easy to misunderstand her intentions and how much she truly cares. She may not be affectionate the way you'd expect a girlfriend to be, and kisses and tender moments are rare with her; but it's obvious she's interested in taking their relationship to the next level. She is subtle about it first: asking Vincent how long they've been together, mentioning how her mother has been pressuring her about how they're doing. At the same time, she tells him she's not worried about it... yet it's enough that even his friends tell him she's ready to tie the knot.
Vincent's input is important to her, however. When she tells him for the first time that she might be pregnant, she watches his reaction very carefully. She flashes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it smile, only for it to fade when Vincent reacts so poorly, uncertain, and afraid... and finally, she's relieved when he tells her he's happy about it. It's only then that she can comfortably talk about their future together... and it's clear she is ready and more than willing to be a mother.
Katherine is a very straight forward person, with a very low tolerance for beating around the bush. When Vincent confronts her about a mysterious "Steve" who called his cell phone, he repeatedly asks her if she knows a Steve, knows who he is. She quickly figures out that her fidelity is being called into question. She demands that he get to the point, and soon she's the one asking the questions, while he understandably backs off.
Her offense is understandable: Katherine is completely honest with Vincent, while he doesn't return the favor, despite his best efforts. Katherine even tells him about strange, mysterious texts she's been getting. It's enough that she seems visibly shaken when she tries to talk about it... but she relents, deeming it unimportant in light of things. She comes right out to ask whether Vincent is hiding anything from her, and believes him when he says no; so she is mostly trusting, despite how stern and skeptical she is with him.
The only time she is proven to be untruthful is when it's revealed she was never pregnant. Katherine already found out long beforehand, and she admits she withheld it from Vincent because she was fearful that he would leave her. Instead, she breaks up with him over his cheating, which he finally admits (though she knew about that, too). She is very calm and rational about it, despite dealing with the loss of both her motherhood and her relationship of five years. This creates an important pivotal point in the game that leaves Vincent alone, after which the player can choose to pursue Katherine, Catherine, or... neither.
All in all, Katherine is an adult. She hides her emotions well, and there doesn't seem to be a lot that can make her lose her cool. She is only shown to be shaken in Vincent's dream, when she "murders" Catherine... and in her good and true endings, when she starts to cry at Vincent's proposal and the overwhelming support his friends show for him. She is a private person, quiet around strangers who aren't her clients, but she has a soft side and is truly capable of caring if given the chance to bond and get to know a person.
At a vulnerable point in her life, where she is single and alone in a foreign place, it will be interesting to see how she reacts to others.
◎ Powers/Abilities:
- None in particular. Katherine is shown to be exceptionally smart, organized, sensible, and well-prepared, but is otherwise a normal human. She seems to know her way around a knife, as suggested by one of Vincent's dreams, but then reacts with horror when she successfully "kills" Catherine--meaning she probably doesn't use it like that (as a weapon) all that much.

◎ First-Person Sample:
- Because Katherine is so private and reserved, action suits her better than a network post. Hopefully this is all okay! Inspiration from prompts here -- option D (obligatory, haha) and then option A.
What? ...Again?
[Katherine is quick to take in her new surroundings and put her guard up as she's greeted with ViViD's childishly bright colors once again. She doesn't even have to look down to know that she's in that same protective armor as before; and there's that knife in her hand, even though she doesn't remember pulling it out. Again, just like before.
Things are different, though.
This isn't the same level or the same area, and the lights start flickering like they're unstable. The ground rumbles, like it's trying to shake her off balance, and she watches as large blocks rise out of the ground, forming what she thinks is an impassable wall. Everything dims... She gasps, taking frantic steps back, until she's greeted with another nasty surprise, in the form of the most disgusting, repulsive monster she's ever seen.
Her heart stops when she turns around to see it. It's enough that she wants to vomit. There aren't any words to describe it in any kind of appropriate way, but when she sees two more helpless souls running in her direction, away from the reach of its snake-like tongue, she can't help but feel relieved.
She's not alone.]
Hurry! [Already breathless, she beckons to them, more terrified than she cares to admit. It doesn't matter who they are; they're her allies now. With no other choice, Katherine climbs up a set of blocks behind them--which certainly did form something impassable, but it's more akin to a tower of legos.
She offers a hand to help the strangers up, too, as it seems to be the only way to go.]
I think we have to run.
[Climb. There's no telling how far it goes; but a faint bell chimes in the distance, signalling freedom...]
... No. No, thank you.
[Katherine's voice is surprisingly calm and firm against a robot that is roughly half her height, and looks like it's been put together by children. She can see the fortune cookie at the end of its plunger arm, waiting for her to take it, but as far as she is concerned, it can find someone else.
Brushing aside her hair, she turns to walk away with a sigh.
.........]
What is it? I told you, I don't want one.
[She can't actually believe she's talking to it. The robot has now started to follow her, sounding more and more insistent. She glances back, and... it feels like it's picked up speed.]
Wh... Hey! [She's suddenly startled when the robot refuses to stop and runs into her, shattering the cookie completely.] Alright already. Jeez...
[She takes the cookie's remnants in her hands, allowing the crumbs to fall away to nothingness between her fingers as the robot finally gives her some space. The paper is the only thing anyone is concerned about anyway, right? It's the same for this... thing, so she's forced to look at it while it watches. She gives another notably discontent sigh, as she attempts to read over it...]
You will...
[YOU WILL BE A VIRGIN FOREVER.
The robot interrupts her, somehow able to read the words right off the paper. Katherine's face goes red with embarrassment. Her eyes are wide as she gasps in shock, and she crushes the paper in her hand with haste, like it'll make a difference now. She throws it, though seeing the crumpled ball bounce off the robot is hardly satisfying enough. It doesn't even matter that the fortune is wrong, wrong, wrong--]
What? No, just-- just shut up!!
[She storms off, hands angrily gripped at her hair and over her ears. If only that would be the end of it...]
❤ I also have an open musebox post with a bunch of comments! It's a little over a year old now though, so I figured I should write something fresh.
